IN THE PRESENCE OF SOME OLD GOD is a book designed by Gabriel Murjani, which consists of a selection of his poetry works written in the fall-winter of 2023. The poems consist of themes regarding race, sexuality, and the negotiation of conflicting religions and cultures through the lens of a contemporary world ridden with deteriorating selflessness and heightened internet-induced anxieties.
The selection of poems relies heavily on Gabriel's experience of the various flavors of the urban environment, particularly New York, and how subcultures interact. The language blends the cosmogonic epic with shortened English commonly found on social media and juxtaposes apocalyptic imagery with meme-like humor.
